Internationally acclaimed Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós has announced a new concert in Melbourne with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra.

Formed in 1994 in Reykjavík, the band comprises lead vocalist and guitarist Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson, bassist Georg Hólm, and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson.

Since announcing plans to tour Australia Sigur Rós fans across Australia have spoken, and the response has been extraordinary. Their initially announced Australian tour dates – including two Melbourne shows and performances in Adelaide and Brisbane – sold out rapidly. In response, Secret Sounds and Double J are excited to announce that two additional performances have been added to the band’s highly anticipated orchestral tour in May 2025. These newly added shows include a second night at Adelaide’s AEC Theatre with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra on Friday 16 May, and a third Melbourne show at the Palais Theatre with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra on Wednesday 21 May.

The Sigur Rós Orchestral Tour in May 2025 will feature intimate performances that blend the ethereal, otherworldly essence of the band with the richness of orchestral arrangements, bringing songs from their latest album, ÁTTA, to life alongside classic tracks beloved by fans worldwide. With Jónsi’s distinctive falsetto and the band’s mesmerising soundscapes, this tour promises a uniquely immersive experience that both new listeners and long-time fans won’t want to miss.

The band’s 2022 Australian headline tour sold out far in advance, and tickets for these additional shows are expected to move quickly. Fans are encouraged to secure their tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
