Sing Your Own Oratorio 2014 (EVENT CLOSED)

The 2013 Sing Your Own Oratorio event at Deakin Edge

For the past four years the RMP held its annual community outreach event, “Sing Your Own Oratorio”, which enables choir singers from other choirs and the wider community workshop and  rehearse with the acclaimed RMP choir for a day before joining them in the evening for a public performance at the end of the RMP Aria Competition Final. This day has proved so successful that we are running it again, bigger than ever, in 2014.

The event has now become so popular that   pre-bookings are essential as we expect places in the RMP Oratorio Festival Choir to sell out fast.

About the Sing Your Own Oratorio Event (Mozart’s Requiem)

On the afternoon of Sunday 10th August 2014, interested choral musicians and community singers from all over Victoria are invited to participate in a special choral workshop (led by award-winning RMP Chief Conductor Andrew Wailes), with the RMP Choir and the RMP Orchestra from 1.00pm – 5.30pm. There you will rehearse one of the most iconic works in all Western music – Mozart’s powerful Requiem in D minor. The first part of the day will take place in the Deakin Edge Auditorium in the form of an intensive choir and piano rehearsal, and after afternoon tea and coffee  (provided in your ticket price), the dress rehearsal with orchestra and soloists will take place on stage.

At about 5.30pm there will be a break for dinner during which time you can explore Federation Square and find something to eat at any one of numerous excellent restaurants and cafes available in the vicinity.

At 7.00pm the RMP Aria Final (which is also included in your ticket price) commences – this is a major singing competition for young aspiring professional singers in oratorio performance. A distinguished panel of judges will award thousands of dollars of prizes, and future performance engagements, and as a member of the audience you will also have the opportunity to cast your vote for the People’s Choice Award. Before the announcement of winners takes place, the Mozart Requiem will be performed. This year the event will also be recorded and filmed.

To cap it off you are invited to a sumptuous champagne supper (also included in your ticket price) where you can meet the performers, judges, orchestra and fellow choristers as well as the audience.

Every year this a fabulous event and the day is enjoyed by all.
